Today is the Feast of Sts. Peter & Paul

Oh my!! How could I almost forget the Patron Saint of our school! It has been a busy summer for us. And it's going to get busier. We're leaving the 4th of July for Ohio to visit Bob's family. It's going to be a mini vacation for us. We are going to try and go to the Cleveland Zoo.

I sent my evaluations in the Superintendent of Pgh. Public Schools. Now all I have to do is send in the Objectives. Then we can get ready to start in Aug. I've gotten all of the curriculum ready. We're going to start at the end of Aug. this year.

We've been trying to do some home improvements. Main emphasis on "trying"! Hopefully we can get the school room done before we start school. Bob promised me!

Otherwise, we have just been in and out. Our Parish Fun Flair is next week. We'll all be volunteering. The girls are back in Youth Group. Bob has been working 6 days a week. He's so ready for his vacation.

I will post Jenna's curriculum best/not so good year as soon as I can. Hope you all have a great 4th of July! I'll try to post before we leave.

Pictures of Our Lady Of Fatima Traveling Statue

We had the traveling statue of Our Lady of Fatima at our parish for 2 weeks..I took some pictures with my cell phone..I don't think it was sacrilegious because the woman there said we could take as many pictures as we wanted..I wanted to share some of them with you all..

She is so beautiful..The pictures do not do her justice..There were many small miracles that happened..Bob's Catholic Men's Group prayed the Rosary to her on Sunday for all families..It was just wonderful to have her with us..I hope they bring her back soon..

What We Did This Year ~ Curriculum Wise (Part 2)

Sorry I'm so late with getting to this..It has been a busy almost summer..But I'm going to post what Ari's done this past year..

Religion ~ The New St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism #1
A Year with God
Holy Heros Advent Adventures
P.A.C.E.

History ~ The Complete Book of World History - I liked this book, so did Ari, but there where a few parts where they were teaching about Evolution (how we came from apes)..We just by passed that, and did something different..Other than that it's a good book..

Grammar ~ CHC's Language of God Level E - This grammar book is great!! It goes in depth to other aspects of grammar like writing a story (part by part)..I think they have a L.O.G. Level F too..

Phys. Ed./Music/Art ~ All 3 of the kids did the same thing in these classes..

Science ~ This year with Science I had Ari & Jen in the same class..We started out with a workbook called "Life Science" but it was more labeling than anything and the girls didn't like it at all..So we wound up doing Spectrum Science 6 which was good..They read the paragraph and then they had questions to answer..At the end of each chapter there was a test..Then at the end of the book they had a more in-depth test..The only problem was that the book was done to fast.. Then we read about the Human Body (by Usbourne) & The Encyclopedia of Science (also by Usbourne)..We wound up the year with Animals of PA..The girls read about an animal and did a report on it..

Math ~ Started out with Spectrum Math..The girls didn't like that, so we switched back to Saxon..The girls both did Saxon 7/6

Reading~ Ari used CHC's Reading Comprehension - Stories of the Saints Vol. II..Then after that she just read books and did reports on them..

Spanish ~ Spanish Booklet Level 1 - Middle/High School
Spanish Dictionary for Beginners (by Usbourne)
Spanish Words & Phrases Flash Cards (again by Usbourne)

Spelling ~ CHC's My Catholic Speller Level E

Vocabulary ~ Wordly Wise Book 3..I don't know why the kids didn't like these..Ari only did 1 lesson in this book..

Ari also was in Youth Group, and did alot of things with them..She started babysitting..We went on some field trips..

For next year, I bought mostly Seton books for her to do..The only non Seton book is History which she'll be doing CHC's history..

Ari has done very well this year..She continues to excell in her classes..

My Review of "The Rosary - Keeping Company with Jesus and Mary"

From the moment I started reading this book for review, I knew I was going to fall in love with it. Karen Edmisten has done a brilliant job with this book! I couldn't put it down. Karen does a wonderful job explaining the Rosary (how it came to be, the Mysteries, etc). I am going to use this book while I am saying my Rosaries. I have a deeper understanding and a richer fullness of the Rosary. And I also found out that even if you go through dry periods of prayer, that if you say the Rosary it still counts.

I would recommend this book to anyone. It's a great read, and a very helpful tool in our spiritual journey.

My review was written as part of the Catholic book review program from The Catholic Company. Visit them to find out more information on The Rosary - Keeping Company with Jesus and Mary, and more wonderful Catholic products.

What We Did This Year ~ Curriculum Wise

I'm going to do this in 3 posts..It's easier for me to type than an all-in-one post..So we're going to start out with Trev..

Religion - Well we did The New St. Joe's Baltimore Catechism #1..Then for supplements we did "A Year With God", "Holy Hero's Advent Adventures" which was on the computer..& We wound the year up with the P.A.C.E. program..

Any of these are wonderful to use..

History - Our United States (Included in 4th grade CHC lesson plans)

We had a really good time doing this, this year..We did a Geography Bee with the family at the end of this year..

Math - For Math we did Saxon 5/4, but Trevor doesn't like Saxon..So we're going to do another Math this year..

Grammar - Language of God Level C..Don't get me wrong..I really love CHC, but it just seems like they are done in no time..

Science - My Temple of the Holy Spirit & Nutrition, Health & First Aid for Catholic Boys & Girls..This was included in CHC's 4th grade lesson plans also..

Trevor really enjoyed doing the parts of the body..

Reading - God's Little Angels & Rare Catholic Stories..Trevor wasn't too impressed with these..He'd rather read different books..Which he did..

Spanish - Spanish Booklet Level 1/Elementary, Spanish Dictionary for Beginners..Trevor loves Spanish..So we're going to be doing it again this year..

Spelling - My Catholic Speller Level C

Trevor does very well with this..

Vocabulary - Wordly Wise Book 1..Trevor did not like this book at all..He only did 2 lessons..

Phys. Ed./Art/Music - We did a variety of things for these subjects..

We also went on Field Trips, and did things with our homeschool group..

So that's it for Trevor this year..Next time I will post Ari's..
